The popular Japanese manga series Captain Tsubasa is credited with having caused a football boom in Japan and influenced many football players, both in Japan and overseas.Yotsugi in Katsushika City, Tokyo, hometown of Yoichi Takahashi, the author of the original comic, is known as a sacred place within the football world.
Keisei Electric Railway wants everyone who visits Yotsugiーthis sacred spot for footballーto enjoy the world view of Captain Tsubasa from its very gateway: Yotsugi Station. With that aim in mind, Keisei Electric Railway has decorated the entire station in Captain Tsubasa artwork.

On the staircases that link the platforms to the concourse floor, goalkeepers Wakabayashi and Wakashimazu call out to passengers, warning them not to dash onto trains when the doors are closing.

The FamilyMart in front of Yotsugi Station entrance sells Captain Tsubasa merchandise. The signboard above the store has a soccer ball embedded into it.

A piece of original “ticket art” drawn by Yoichi Takahashi himself depicts the manga’s main character Tsubasa Oozora. The artwork was created by combining around 110,000 used tickets. It is a valuable piece of art that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world.

As passengers descend from the platforms to the concourse, they are greeted by main character Tsubasa Oozora himself, on the walls and ceiling of the staircases. The word “Welcome” is written in a total of 26 different languages

The lightbulb covers above the concourse outside the ticket gates feature soccer ball designs.

The station is also home to a life-sized statue of Vissel Kobe’s superstar player Andres Iniesta, a Captain Tsubasa fan and official supporter of the project. The statue was made to commemorate Iniesta’s visit to the station.

The ceiling inside the ticket gates is covered with artwork depicting Tsubasa Oozora performing an overhead kick.

Yotsugi Station has adopted Moete Hero, the end theme song from the animated version of Captain Tsubasa, as the melody played to signal the approach of incoming trains.

“STOP! Kakekomijosha” Sports Towel
The towel features the illustration of goalkeeper Genzo Wakabayashi seen when climbing the stairs to Yotsugi Station Platform 1. The design is intended to promote awareness about not dashing onto trains when doors are closing.
